Chicago Colorectal Services

At our practice, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of all conditions affecting the lower gastrointestinal tract. This includes the colon (with or without small bowel), rectum, anus and perianal region. Patients benefit from our experience and expertise in performing the full spectrum of highly specialized abdominal, anorectal and endoscopic procedures.

Procedures

Abdominal (laparoscopic, robotic, open)

Most abdominal procedures are minimally invasive, meaning they are performed using a laparoscopic or robotic approach. In a small percentage of patients with complex diseases or those who have previously undergone abdominal surgeries, a traditional “open” abdominal surgery is necessary.

  • Colon and rectal resection for colon, rectal and anal cancer
  • Sphincter saving procedures avoiding permanent colostomy
  • Colon resection for diverticulitis
  • Colon, rectal and small bowel resection for Crohn’s disease
  • Colon and rectal resection for ulcerative colitis and for familial adenomatous polyposis FAP (colectomy with ileal pouch anal anastomosis IPAA)
  • Enterocutanous fistula repair (small bowel and colon)
  • Parastomal hernia repair
  • Stoma (ileostomy, colostomy) surgery
  • Colon and rectal resection for endometriosis
  • Colon resection for constipation

Anorectal

Anorectal procedures are often performed on a same-day or ambulatory basis. Some of these procedures can be performed laparoscopically in what is called transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS). Other simple and painless anorectal procedures can be be performed in the office without anesthesia.

  • Transanal surgery for cancer and polyps
  • Transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS)

  • Anal fistula repair
  • Abscess surgery
  • Rectovaginal fistula repair

  • Rectocele surgery
  • Fecal incontinence surgery (sphincter repair, sacral nerve stimulation SNS)
  • Pilonidal cyst removal
  • Perianal hidradenitis
  • Condyloma (perianal warts) surgery
